Mr. Allred (for himself, Mrs. Ramirez, Ms. Norton, Ms. Barragán, Ms. Velázquez, Ms. Matsui, Ms. Salinas, and Mr. Larson of Connecticut) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Education and the Workforce


A BILL

To amend the National and Community Service Act of 1990 to ensure DACA recipients are eligible for educational awards.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. Short title.

This Act may be cited as the “AmeriCorps Access for Dreamers Act”.

SEC. 2. Eligibility for DACA recipients.

Section 146(a)(3) of the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (42 U.S.C. 12602(a)(3)) is amended by inserting before the period at the end the following: “, or is an individual granted deferred action pursuant to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy announced by the Secretary of Homeland Security on June 15, 2012 (without regard to the limitations imposed under subtitle A of title IV of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (8 U.S.C. 1611 et seq.))”.

SEC. 3. Effective date.

The amendment made by this Act shall take effect on the date of enactment of this Act, and shall apply with respect to educational awards disbursed on or after the date of enactment of this Act.
