IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES

Mr. Rubio introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations


A BILL

To amend the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2020 to impose additional sanctions relating to human rights abuses in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. Short title.

This Act may be cited as the “Sanctioning Supporters of Slave Labor Act”.

SEC. 2. Imposition of additional sanctions relating to human rights abuses in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

(a) In general.—Section 6 of the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2020 (Public Law 116–145; 22 U.S.C. 6901 note) is amended—

(1) in subsection (a)—

(A) by redesignating paragraph (2) as paragraph (3); and

(B) by inserting after paragraph (1) the following:

“(2) ADDITIONAL MATTERS TO BE INCLUDED.—The President shall include in the report required by paragraph (1) an identification of—

“(A) each foreign person that knowingly provides material support to or for a person identified in such report; and

“(B) each foreign person that knowingly engages in a significant transaction relating to any of the acts described in subparagraphs (A) through (F) of paragraph (1).”; and

(2) in subsection (b), by striking “subsection (a)(1)” and inserting “subsection (a)”.

(b) Effective date.—The amendments made by subsection (a)—

(1) take effect on the date of the enactment of this Act; and

(2) apply with respect to each report required by section 6(a) of the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2020 submitted before, on, or after such date of enactment.
