A BILL

To amend title 23, United States Code, to include education on trailer safety in State highway safety programs.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. Short title.

This Act may be cited as the “Trailer Safety Improvement Act”.

SEC. 2. Trailer safety programs.

Section 402(a)(2)(A) of title 23, United States Code, is amended—

(1) in clause (xiii) by striking “and” at the end;

(2) in clause (xiv) by striking the semicolon and inserting “; and”; and

(3) by inserting after clause (xiv) the following:

    “(xv) to educate the public about proper and safe usage of light- and medium-duty trailers, including required safety equipment and preventive maintenance for safety;”.
