To amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to prohibit contributions and donations by foreign nationals in connection with ballot initiatives and referenda.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
This Act may be cited as the “Protecting Ballot Measures From Foreign Influence Act”.
SEC. 2. Prohibition on contributions and donations by foreign nationals in connection with ballot initiatives and referenda.
(a) Prohibition.—Section 319(a)(1)(A) of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 (52 U.S.C. 30121(a)(1)(A)) is amended by inserting “, or a State or local ballot initiative or ballot referendum” after “election”.
(b) Effective date.—The amendment made by this section shall apply with respect to contributions and donations made on or after the date of enactment of this Act.
